There probably won't ever be an iPhone 8
Apologies to anyone who doesn't like change, because you're not going to like this news. Word on the tech street is that Apple probably won't ever make an iPhone 8, and if it's true, it's the end of a bloody era.
Apple tends to release the new models of its phones every September, and given its last release - the iPhone 7 - came out in September 2016, you'd expect the updated version of that model, the iPhone 7s, to land this coming September.
But the thing is, there's also the small matter of 2017 being the 10 year anniversary of the first ever iPhone being brought into existence, and it wouldn't be like Apple not to mark such a significant anniversary in a big way. Which is what leads those-in-the-know (er, Tech Radar) to believe that there won't be an iPhone 7s, or even an iPhone 8.
In its place, apparently, will be *drum roll*... the iPhone X. Edgy.
Youtube/ConceptsiPhoneScrapping the previous pattern they've adhered to with chronological numbering, it seems Apple might be considering using the Roman numeral for 10, 'X', instead. And it's got quite a ring to it.
But apparently it wouldn't just be the phone's name that's not in keeping with the tech giant's previous models. According to the report which hints at the whole 'X' thing, written by analyst Timothy Arcuri of Cowen and Company, the new phone will boast a 5.8-inch wraparound screen, with the fingerprint detector, earpiece and front camera all built into it. So there'll be no physical home button, which is new.
While the rumours sound exciting, at the moment they seem to be just informed speculation with no actual proof. So we might have to wait another eight months for the big reveal. That should be enough time to get used to the 'X' though, just in case.
