How to turn off the sound on auto-play Facebook videos
Along with the (slightly questionable) Stories feature, Facebook's new update is rolling out auto-play sound to go alongside the videos on your Newsfeed.
Which means not only do you have to hear snippets of every single video you scroll past, but that the music through your headphones will constantly be interrupted by babies/dogs/football stuff depending on what your friends are sharing.
Sounds pretty grim, right?
Luckily, though, the answer isn't just 'put your phone on silent and miss every phone call forever and ever amen', after LifeHacker discovered a way to stop the sound automatically playing every time you scroll past a video on Facebook.
To do so,
Open the Facebook app, and click the three lines menu button in the bottom right corner of the screen.Go Settings > Account Settings > SoundsTap the toggle to off for 'Videos in News Feed Start With Sound'The publication report that you might not have this specific option yet because the auto-play sound hasn't been rolled out to all iPhone and Android users - but when it is? You'll be happy you know how to turn it off straight away.
Unless of course you're keen to be consumed by watching 482 auto-play videos in a row. Same.
