Fifty Shades of Grey publishers are now publishing some erotic letters from the 1920s
The next big thing to hit the world of popular erotica (pop-rot? eroti-pop?)? 1920s love letters. So much sexier than whips and chains and champagne in bellybuttons.
The publishers of Fifty Shades of Grey, a little book you may have heard of, have bought a series of letters from the 1920s, which they will edit and publish for release next year.
The letters, sent between a fancy woman named Mademoiselle Simone, and her married, younger lover Charles, are apparently quite the raunch-fest. They begin by charting out "Simone's own sexual awakening", and then become "increasingly erotic and explicit as their relationship develops." Simone then "pushes the boundaries boundaries of what was acceptable in order to keep Charles satisfied", which could mean all kinds of kinky stuff. Potentially even MORE shades of grey, whatever the heck that means.
GiphyThere's no further information about Simone and Charles available to anyone, which adds a fun extra layer of mystery.The letters were originally discovered by a diplomat in the cellar of an old friend's apartment (perhaps a makeshift red room?), "deliberately hidden under several crates of empty jars."
"We have no way of knowing who Simone or Charles were," say the publishers, "or what became of them, only that their affair ended in heartbreak." Sad. But for anyone thinking that there's no WAY real life 1920s erotica can be as raunchy as the stuff thought up by E.L. James, don't worry. While the letters are described as "elegant" and "moving", they're also apparently quite "crude".

But, in a potentially more interesting turn of events, she loses touch of reality and becomes obsessed with her lover, as he refuses to return her affections. "Simone forces him beyond his sexual boundaries, ultimately reversing their roles," says the book's agent. "Simone wants Charles to taste unsuspecting pleasures and she turns him into her 'mistress'."
And just to build up the anticipation, here's the quote they should pretty much plaster over the book's cover: "with each taboo they break, he gives himself further to her ? until their last fateful sexual encounter." Dramatic. Kinky. The perfect combination.
The letters will be published under the title The Passion of Mademoiselle S next July.
